Less than a year

“Less than a year before we’ll be gone” has become a bit of a mantra in this house.

Less than a year before we quit our jobs.

Less than a year before we no longer live in this house.

Less than a year before we can think about adopting a new pet (we both have serious pet-envy).

Less than a year before Beloved has a second passport and I am a legal permanent resident.

Less than a year before we’ll throw (I guess?) a goodbye party, despite vowing not to throw any parties for a loooong time.

Less than a year before putting most of our possessions in storage.

Less than a year before getting on an air plane with at best an open return ticket.

Is less than a year soon? Or is it a long time? Should I even say talk about it like it’s fixed, or is it tempting fate?

I’m so happy for you guys that it’s less than a year, but it also makes me kinda sad that you’ll be leaving “so soon” :’-)

And then there are some of us across the pond that it makes very happy! 😀

It is a _very_ comforting thought that I have at least one friend waiting for me there 🙂

If it consoles you: we’ll come back plenty (or face disinheritance by my folks, hehe). But you’re right, it is a weird combination of feelings to start over, but also to end things, to leave folks, and move closer to others (like Theener below).
